Milky Goddess Journal
I had a spark of energy today. I encouraged this feeling from within. Escaping work to massage my breasts and thinking about when I will be able to pump freely without being interrupted.
Today was different and familiar. I felt turned on. This morning ritual of pumping was welcoming and productive. A few drops, even when I stop, my milk still flows. This morning I was walking around naked and I enjoyed watching my body jiggle from mirror to mirror.
I have gained weight. Part of it is stress, not eating as well (busy schedule), and chronic illness. Some rural communities are food deserts, and quick dinner is fast food. I have talked about nourishing my body and I am making efforts to do so.
As a result of these past few months… and the holiday season… this milky goddess. Well, I look like the old goddesses. The ones that resembled fertility and had statues made in awe and remembrance of the woman figure.
I stopped in the mirror, paused, and shifted my weight to both feet. Standing bold and tracing my curves in the mirror. Not sensual, but intentional and with profound remembrance of many feminine figures before me. Full-figured and prayed to in hopes to bring beauty and fertility.
There are many accounts of goddesses. Xochiquetzal, Hera, Freya, and so on. Among many communities oceans away there are similar stories and memorials. When I honor this milky journey I honor those stories, those memories, those prayers, and the goddesses.
There is a goddess in all of us.
These thoughts sat with me and developed into deep intentional thought. So much so that when I got home there was a primal urge for self-devotion… and who am I to decline that call? In fact, I answered it graciously.
I slipped my pumps into my nursing bra and awakened my nipples with warm coconut-oiled circles before latching the pumps on. In this journey I have noticed that the coconut oil allows for a deeper pull. The simulation of saliva and a satisfying “THWAK” when detaching the pumps after a session…
